Trip to the Georgetown Hole

I’m normally an inshore angler, but last fall, when Dr. Joe had an opening on his annual trip aboard the Aggressor II out of Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant, I decided to test the limits of my stomach.

The Aggressor II is kind of like taking a limosine fishing, so even my weak stomach was able to handle the trip out to Georgetown Hole.  Once I really woke up and had something to eat, I was ready to fish.

The Georgetown Hole is an area that warm waters from the Gulf Stream follow the shelf and circular currents are created by a steep canyon.  This spot is only about 60 miles off the coast of McClellanville.  We left out of Mt. Pleasant, so it was a little further, but we made pretty good time.

We had a good day landing 27 dolphin and 2.5 tuna (a shark got half of one).  The crew was great and kept us on fish all day and made quick work of cleaning the fish when we got in.

The real winner of the day was a small wren, a long way from where it is supposed to be.  Exhausted he was happy to see something he could light on.  He came and landed on the boat.  It sat on Wade’s shoulder for a while and then rode the whole wayback to shore with us.

Good trip, thanks for the opportunity Doc.
